Learn to Swim

Holsworthy Aquatic Centre's Learn to Swim program caters for children who are being introduced to the pool for the first time, through to stroke correction. Our skill-based approach ensures that once your child has mastered the skill set associated with each level they will advance to the next. We love to create a fun learning environment for our students as we want them to be comfortable and confident in and around water.
"I can hardly believe my daughter went from barely being able to do a thing, to recently swimming a 50m race at her school swimming carnival, and all this achieved in only 10 months. Swimming all year long was just brilliant for her - that consistent effort paid off and I highly recommend not only HAC, but sticking to the sport all year round. The benefits are worth it!" - Joan Murphy
“I am forever indebted to the team of Holsworthy Swimming Centre, for teaching my children the lifesaving skill of swimming, and teaching them to both love and respect the water. Whilst I would never leave my children unattended near water, I am confident that my eldest children, could save themselves in the event that they were to accidently fall into water. " - Kirindy Barnaby

Seahorse

Swimming for the first time for some, may be a little nerve-wrecking, our small classes (maximum 4 per class) ensure your child receives the attention they need. Our Seahorse level caters for children of all different confidence levels, and provides an anxious-free, fun-filled experience. Our approach and teaching methods create solid fundamentals, transforming non and poor swimmers into swimmers competent in dog paddle, back floating, basic back kicking and diving.
Not only do we base our lessons around fun, we also encourage our students to be the best they can be through celebrating each and every success with positive praise and rewards.

Seals

Some children who have been through our Parent and Babies class may be reluctant to move up to Seahorse, without their parent in the pool. Or maybe the parent would prefer to stay in the pool, and assist their child’s learning a bit longer. For this reason we have created our Seals Class.Children will learn all the components of Seahorse, but with a Parent or Carer assisting them with the lesson. This can be a great benefit for the children, as the parent/Carer is with them, hands on for the entire lesson, helping them understand and practice all parts of our lesson plan. When both parent and child feel comfortable with the lesson plan, Parents are advised to withdraw from the water, and allow the child to develop confidence and stamina, with the assistance of our Instructors, in a Seahorse class.

Angelfish

Your child is comfortable in the water. They have control of their breathing and are able to submerge. In Angelfish they will improve their doggy paddle, building their strength while improving their ability to swim up to 25m without assistance. Your child can float and will learn how to backscull for 25m unassisted. Angelfish runs with no more than 4 students per class and these lessons are still based around fun.

Goldfish

These children are comfortable in the water, they are able to float and dog paddle independently. The children will be taught freestyle arms, with one-sided breathing (Two Arm Freestyle) and basic backstroke. Goldfish has no more then 4 students per class.

Dolphin

Now that the hard part is out of the way, let's fine tune your children's swimming! This level builds upon your child’s technique, developing their 2-arm freestyle without the use of a kickboard, backstroke, and standing dives. As every student has now mastered the fundamentals of swimming our Dolphin classes have a maximum of 5 students in each class, who are constantly swimming. By the end of this level, your child is able to swim 2-arm freestyle and backstroke for 25 metres or more, with good form.

Lobster

With basic technique learnt and understood, we begin to introduce 3-arms freestyle, breaststroke kick, develop butterfly kick and promote endurance with all strokes. Our Lobsters will enjoy a more competitive style of swimming, whilst still ensuring a fun atmosphere. This level is run with no more than 6 students per class, kept in constant motion throughout the entire lesson.

Tadpole

Within this level students learn and refine techniques specific to competitive racing. Our aim is to enforce correct skill and develop the endurance of our students to allow for efficient and fast swimmers. Butterfly and Breaststroke arms are added, ensuring students understand and adhere to the correct body positioning and timing of these strokes. To prepare and develop students racing abilities, starts and turns and finishes for all strokes are taught. This level is run with no more than 8 students per class, kept in constant motion throughout the entire lesson.

Adolescent classes

It is never too late to enrol your child into swimming lessons. Our Adolescent classes cater for beginner swimmers between 7 years to 17 years (seperate age appropriate classes). These classes are aimed at teaching the basics of swimming such as buoyancy, breath control and the ability to move through the water at an efficient level. All this is achieved at the students own pace, ensuring they are comfortable with the environment and tasks at hand.
